Baby cakes saga continues...

I went to the library hoping BEGGING, PRAYING to find other books to substitute but not a single one was on the shelf. NOT A SINGLE ONE. Not even the raggedy ones that are always there but no one checks them out. Yeah, not even those. So back we came with baby cakes and I was once again forced to read it 7+ times!

It has gotten to the point where I will give my son Baby Cakes and tell him to go to his baba and I RUN. I MEAN I RUN.  He does the same to me.  We call it the baby cakes trap and we giggle like school girls when we ensnare the other.  Maturity and awesome parenting at its best.  Anyway hubster managed to ensnared me but instead of running he stayed to "listen" to the story (am an awesome story teller).  I thought that was weird but kept reading.  Afterward my son asked hubster to read it to him and he whipped out his phone and press played.  HE RECORDED ME!

WHY DID I NOT THINK OF THAT?  Bubs didn't buy it though. LOL. Smart kid. Nice try hubster...nice try.

Dogs in Islam (AWESOME article)

Educate yourself and don't go around hiding behind "its against my religion" when you clearly don't even know what your religion says about it other than what you heard and or read on the internet.  This isn't directed at anyone person but rather EVERYONE who has a beating heart.
Healthy, happy animals belonging to Muslims are also brought in to be put to death. This is a very disturbing and un-Islamic action. If one cannot afford to feed, shelter, and maintain one’s animals, and a new home cannot be found for them, take them to one of the many animal welfare organizations where there is at least a chance of the animal’s finding a new home. The real tragedy is that many of these Muslims still do this in the name of Islam and openly express such ignorant views. This contributes to propaganda against Islam. When a non-Muslim is cruel to an animal, it is considered an individual’s action, but when a Muslim does it, non-Muslims see it as an Islamic practice.               Check out the full article HERE
Now I am a devout animal lover, if I see you being cruel to an animal and or abusing an animal I will cut ALL ties with you.  If you cannot have mercy for those who clearly cannot defend themselves and depend on you for their sustenance and shelter you cannot be trusted to be any where near my children.  In the USA in psych, criminal justice and forensic classes we were taught that serial killers and psycho paths begin their descent in to evil by being cruel to animals.  Nearly every violent crime offender has had some kind of history of being abusive to animals.  THEREFORE I do not trust anyone who willingly causes harms to any living creation of Allah swt.  I think it is completely haraam and there have been mentions in hadiths about ppl going to hell fire for starving a cat and not allowing it to fend for itself either.  SO if you cannot handle the responsibility and AMANAH from Allah swt to care for these animals DO NOT get one.

Also getting a pet for your children as a toy is NOT humane and definitely NOT a good idea.  Animals aren't toys and they need a lot of attention and time more so than what the average child can give it.  The below is taken from the same site...

Let me clarify a few myths and make a few points:

1. It is NOT haraam to own a dog, though it is not hygienic to keep a dog in the house.

2. It is NOT haraam to touch a dog or any other animal. If the saliva of a dog touches you or any part of your clothing, then it is required of you to wash the body part touched and the item of clothing touched by the dog’s mouth or snout.

3. It is incumbent upon all Muslims who own animals, whether for farming or work purposes or as pets, to provide adequate shelter, food, water, and, when needed, veterinary care for their animals. Arrangements must be made, if one is going to be away from home, to have one’s animals taken care of as well.

4. It is haraam to keep a dog or any other animal on a short lead for long periods without food, water, and shelter. Dogs need exercise and are social creatures who form organized “family” structures in nature. Dog owners therefore need to spend time daily with their dogs.

5. It is cruel, and therefore haraam, to keep any animal in a cage so small that it cannot behave in a natural way.

6. Fireworks cause untold suffering to most domestic animals because of their acute sense of hearing.

7. It is haraam to participate in any blood “sport,” like dog fighting and trophy hunting.

No animal has been cursed in any way. Animals are referred to in many instances in the Qu’ran. In Surah Kahf, mention is made of the companions of the Cave and their dog. (S18: 18-22)

We would love for Allah to bestow His mercy upon us, so let’s show mercy and compassion to all His creation. This will also give non-Muslims a true reflection of Islam, aiding da’wah.

There are many Muslims who care well for their animals, and this article is aimed at those who are misinformed.
Check out the full article HERE

So educate yourself because unfortunately everything we do is attributed to Islam so try to put your best foot forward.  NOT to mention Allah swt sees ALL that you do  and you cannot lie to him so behave like you should from the get go.

Porn for Moms (OH YEAH BABY!!)

I took these from Karabearblu. LOL. ENJOY LADIES! ENJOY@

"I found these from the book Porn for Women and Porn for New Moms and thought I'd share. They are amusing!"

Yesterday was bad

I burst in to tears with snot, snorting and all kinds of breathing issues TWICE.  Like someone died or something and guess what cheered me up?   Baby Cakes. My son poked me in the ribs with the book so I laid down with him and read it (7+ times) and felt so much better.  *shakes fist at karma*

inshaAllah today will be MUCH better. INSHAALLAH otherwise the waterworks will be on full blast.  SubhanaAllah I went from not being able to cry AT ALL because of my childhood to choking up and in tears for the littlest things.

Baby Cakes, Baby Cakes,
I love you!
Baby Cakes, Baby Cakes,
Yes, I do!

purple nirpple

I haven't decided what I will do to my hubster yet but he HAS TO PAY.  Who the heck teaches a toddler who is still nursing the purpple nirpple?

SERIOUSLY! WHO?!  My  husband apparently.

Sleep with one eye open buddy! You don't know the level of retribution heading your way no you don't son.  I suggest you go pray for some salvation because am gonna put the hurting on you.

I am a victim of my own success. sigh.

die baby cakes! DIE!

Well, first let me give you some background, although I raised my brothers since they were very little as soon as I left the house its like all my children skills were left with them.  I couldn't coo or play with a baby "uchie kuchiee kuu" crap to save my life.  I couldn't even read their books without sounding like I was reading a dissertation on why earth worms are better than regular worms. Matter of fact after my friends started having kids I used to "play" with them at an arms length and I preferred to interact with the adults.  I was just physically uncomfortable with children specially babies and toddlers.

Last awkward situation was me and my friend "Lisa" coming back from a lunch with another friend and she was singing "row, row, row, your boat" to her daughter and she wanted me to chime in and I froze.  YEAH.  Fast forward two years and I give birth  to my baby boy.  I remember calling my friend and CRYING that my son and I weren't bonding because I treated him like an adult and he wanted me to coo at him.  She laughed her hijab off but I was serious!  SubhanaAllah. Anyway after trying everything in my book to bond with my son I overcame my shyness to baby talk him and to play and make up stupid songs about his toes and what not.  (yes am I am red with embarrassment right now, apparently am still working on it).

Anyway I have been taking him to the library for the past couple of months (maybe 3-4) and he has picked out his books.  At first I used to read to him like I would a medical journal.  I have since changed.  Changing my voice to fit the different characters, describing what the characters are doing, maybe even tell him the colors of their clothing.  Anything to make the experience more enjoyable to him.  WELL PEOPLE I did such an amazing job (alhamdulillah, mashaAllah) that my son makes me read his favorite books 6,7,8,9,10,11 or MORE times in ONE sitting a day.

oh dear LORD!

First it was Whose Toes are Those? by Jabari Asim. I HAVE IT MEMORIZED! "whose toes are those? who do you supposed has such fine toes? so brown and sweet who could have such darling feet. Ten little lovelies all in a row" SHOOT ME NOW!

Then it was Pajama Time! by Sandra Boynton.  "the moon has set, its getting late, lets get ready to celebrate, its pajama time...pajammy to the left, pajammy to the right! jamma jamma jamma PAJAMA TIME"

NOW ITS BABY CAKES! And it goes like this "baby cakes, baby cakes I LOVE YOU, baby cakes, baby cakes YES I DO! Kiss my little Baby Cakes on the nose, oh my little baby cakes taste so sweet."
OMG people. O-M-G. I feel like some part of me has crawled up and DIED somewhere along with some brain cells and am pretty sure some self esteem.  Ah, but you should hear him squeal when I act out the books.  As soon as I finish and say "THE END" you here "MO, MO, MO book, baby baby" and am like
"baby cakes, baby cakes, I LOVE YOU, baby cakes baby cakes yes I DO" here is the bear and here is the baby look at them hugging. Now repeat this scenario 8 or more times RIGHT after finishing the book.  Its like on the one hand I LOVE it that he is enjoying the books and likes me to read to him on the other my ribs cannot handle anymore of these hard covered books being shoved their to get my attention.  I tell you, am a victim of my own success.

Dear New Converts/Reverts (whatever floats your boat)

I wanted to make a post about this for the LONGEST but I kept forgetting. Today this is what I put as my status
Islam's awesomeness is NOT dependent nor is it strengthen by who comes in to the religion or weakened by who leaves it.  Rather it lays with Allah swt, His Book and His MessengersPeople have come in and left during the time of the Prophet (saw), in the 1400+ years since then and they will continue to do so until the end of time.  So why are you stressing when people leave? Just say inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi rajiuun, ask Allah swt to spare you their trials, give shukr for still having iman and keep it moving.

Similar thing when people come in, YAY and alhamdulillah for it, Ask to be blessed with even more iman, make du'a for the newest convert, help however you can, give shukr and keep it moving.
As a new convert people will make you feel like you are the most awesomemest thing that has ever happened to Islam since the time of the Prophet Muhammad (saw).  Sorry to burst your bubble BUT you aint.  Its totally awesome that you found your way to Islam and inshaAllah it can benefit you in this life and in the hereafter but your conversion in no way raises Islam's awesomeness just like someone leaving it (inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi rajiuun) in no way decreases it.  YOU either benefit from Islam or YOU don't but that is about it.
  1. Get used to the fact that you may be on your own for MOST of your learning curve. Don't worry its no big deal just keep asking Allah swt for guidance and to make it easy for you. You should definitely hook up with practicing Muslims and start attending classes at the masjid.
    • HERE is a tutorial for praying
    • Islam was revealed over 20+ years and NO ONE expects you to be perfect right out of the gate.  This in no way absolves you from your responsibility to learn though ;)
    • You should also learn about the prayer for guidance aka Istikhara as it will be IMMENSELY valuable to you in your growth.
  2. You will be a novelty and people will come and stare at you like "WHAT?! someone chose to be Muslim on their OWN?!" yeah, just smile and keep making du'a, the novelty will soon wear off and they may even forget they ever met you.  Fame is fickle my friend.
  3. Muslims are not the best ambassadors for Islam you may witness some atrocious behavior from them but they are only human.  Correct the behavior if you can + make du'a for them and if you can't, make du'a for them anyway.
  4. Don't let people lie to you and tell you that you will find the sahabah if you travel to Muslim majority lands.  NOT AT ALL.  You will find people struggling to practice their faith like anywhere else on this beautiful planet of ours. Don't get disheartened just be realistic.
  5. Find older practicing Muslims to learn from and make friends with older converts (I don't only mean age but how long they have been in the religion) as they can be invaluable in helping you navigate your new world plus give you insight on how to deal with issues.  They have been there and can give you better advice than someone who hasn't.
  6. Attend classes at the masjid as you can learn a lot from them and it will also help you socialize and meet the community.
  7. Blogs are great but you really don't know who is behind the keyboard or if they are even knowledgeable to be giving you Islamic advice.  Me included. Same with youtube.
  8. Don't get sucked in to sectarian bashing, no one likes to have their beliefs bashed.  IF you think you are on the truth make du'a that Allah swt guides them and you to the truth and keeps you on the truth.
  9. You may want to rush and make your family Muslim but that may not happen and you need to understand that. As someone who absolutely abhors being proselytized to let me tell you that your behavior after Islam is way more important than your talk.  Why would they want to convert to Islam when they can't see any benefits in you after it?  (the hereafter is completely different but they can't see that can they?) They can only see the here and now as well as your actions.
  10. DO NOT BASH YOUR PREVIOUS RELIGION. DO NOT AND I MEAN DO NOT.  It's not right nor is it sunnah to do so.  You also don't get any brownie points for low blows.  Your family and friends may still be adherents to that religion and I am sure it wont go over well for you to be bashing their beliefs it will also not garner you any supporters. It also wont make you a better or stronger Muslim for it.  Tolerance people tolerance.  Instead focus on practicing your new found faith and hope that the positive changes in you might make those around you consider Islam.
  11. Be careful and don't engage in topics that you know very little about specially with people you know very little about.  Not because it will make you look like a fool but rather you can innocently get entangled in a web that may bring you lots and lots of trouble.
  12. Being a brand new Muslim is like being the newest kid in the playground, you may want to be popular and play with the other kids but be careful on who you choose to be your friend and always pray istikhara when possible. It will save you lots and lots of heartache.

ps. What is the difference between a non Muslim and a Muslim? besides aqidah not much, they are both people struggling with their whims and desires. No one is immune to the human condition.

to be continued...

I got dumped like a sack of rotten potatoes

Remember this friend? Well she returned to her husband we are not sure about the timeline because she may or not have been pregnant by the time she left.  However, after 2 months away she was definitely pregnant.  For whatever reasons that were (inshaAllah) completely up to her, she has reconciled with her husband.  Just as expected he took her out of the state and moved almost 1750+ miles away in a state where she has no friends or family.  I am making du'a for her but honestly this kind of behavior scares me because abusers like to isolate their victims. I hope that this generalization does not apply to this particular situation.

She left without saying goodbye nor even informing me of the pregnancy.  I found out about the move and the pregnancy from another friend who is sporadically cut off.  I have noticed that every single friend who was directly involved has been cut off and ironically the one still in the loop was the one who started the wheels turning.  I am thinking the husband doesn't think she was involved because she lived a couple of states away but she was indeed the one running the show once he cut off our friend's cell phone.  Anyway, I wish her the best I do not regret any of my actions as we had reliable information from the sheikh of the community as well as other people involved in this situation.

The other friend "Lisa" she expected the friendship to end if she chose to reconcile with her husband but she prefers that it ended this way instead of in a morgue.  I knew it was a possibility although I kinda did expect a a call like "hey hun, listen I am trying to work things out with my husband and he doesn't want me talking to you, so am sorry but I wont be in touch for now or ever."  Instead I was left in the dark and she and I were REALLY close friends so this hurts.

BTW. I sent my du'as to hajj with my FIL and one of them was for her to conceive as they had been trying for 5+ years unsuccessfully.  At the time I didn't know what kinda of man he was so I made the du'a, but regardless there is wisdom in why these things happen as well as the timeline.  I pray that she is safe and that her child or possibly children are raised with love and free of abuse. ameen.

Arabic is my jaded lover

I learned to read arabic a while back and for one reason or another I stopped reading it and even writing it.  So when I decided to hit the books all I could see where squiggly lines after squiggly lines.  It took me about 3 days of forcing myself to read the arabic instead of the transliteration morning and evening and its back! alhamdulilah, I CAN READ AGAIN!

Now I have to work on writing because that is another area that I stopped and it feels like putting on my shoes and forgetting how to tie them.  I will work on my writing tomorrow after maybe a year or more of ignoring it.
Why is arabic like a cross between an arab and spanish telenovela? its worst than a jaded lover, has tons of drama and makes you work twice as hard for it when you ignore it for a little bit. ahh, but its worth it. *shakes fist* it gots the goods :) Plus such a satisfaction when you master it again.
Does anyone else feel like this or is it with ANY language?  Because I feel like I need to coax it back with some pillow talk, like "hey baby, how you doing? you know I didn't meant to not see you for over a year? baby its not what you think! I still like you....but am seeing other languages."
I totally suck at pillow talk.

Children's pimp book

ok, so my son and I are library enthusiasts (mashaAllah) and we go every so often to pick up some children's books for me to read to him.  He picks some and I pick others.  He picked the following book which is about peace, tolerance and equality.  Nice message but the first thing that came to my mind was "is that a pimp on the cover? complete with the feather on his hat? what the hale?" Or am I just jaded? YOU decide.

  2. What are the lengths?
  3. Who are your favorite sellers?
  4. Colors?
  5. Styles?
  6. What is the most you have EVER spent on one?

Two Thousand Five Hundred Good Deeds...can you beat it?

'Abdullah Bin 'Amir (ra) reported that the Prophet (Saw) said: There are two acts that no Muslim worshiper does consistently bu that he will enter Jannah. And though they are easy, only a few people perform them:
  1. After each of the (five) prayers, say tasbih ten times, tahmid ten times, and takbir ten times. This makes one hundred fifty (daily extollments) by tongue, and one thousand five hundred (good deeds) in the scale
  2. Upon going to bed, say takbir thirty four times, tahmid thirty three times and tasbih thirty three times. This makes one hundred (extollments) by tongue, and one thousand (good deeds) in the scale.
So who among you would commit two thousand five hundred sins in one day (to counter that)?

The Prophet (saw) then added:
Satan comes to a person while he is ready to sleep, and makes him fall asleep before he finishes saying them; and he comes to him after prayer, and reminds him of something he needs to do instaed of saying them.
Recorded by Abu Dawud, at Tirmithi and others. Verified to be authentic by al-Albani

NO difference

Immediately after the flotilla event I joined a whole bunch of fb pages trying to get more information about what was going on in Palestine, what kind of relief efforts and so on.  I just "unliked" about 2/3 of them, usually run by the same individual/group.  They supposedly support the Palestinians but they are just using their sufferings as a platform to spew their hateful, ignorant, snide comments.

Posting pics of children with guns and saying "israeli children...look what their mama teaches them!" really? really? really? you are going to stoop so low? and with thousands of members? It honestly looked like any other gun show in America, there was nothing that can even be remotely associated to the ME on that pic.  It was just a kid inside a tent (just like in the gun shows) admiring a gun with adults passing by admiring other guns.  Another time they had a picture of the israeli flag being used by someone as toilet paper the caption reading "the only good use for it."  I commented that it had nothing to do with "seeking the truth" nor did it benefit anyone.  I also mentioned that it was disrespectful because it had a religious symbol accepted by most if not all of Judaism (the star of david).  This brought about a bunch of people trying to prove that the Star of David had nothing to do with Judaism.

That got me upset, do you realize how many times non Muslims try to tell me how to practice my religion what is or isn't "Islamic"?  so why are we doing it to another religion?  It DOESN'T matter if the star has or doesn't have a religious beginning or when it was adopted. The point is the members of Judaism HAVE accepted it so leave it the heck alone. Like I have mentioned before if someone was protesting against saudi and they take their flag and do the same, I would be upset because it has the kalimah on it accepted by ALL Muslims.  And those states DO NOT represent a whole religion.

There is little difference between the admins of those pages and the people they supposedly hate.  Same speech, same rhetoric, same propaganda even similar agenda.  They would be an awesome addition to any fear/war mongers association.  No wonder the world discredits the Palestinians struggle so much and so quickly, because they cannot speak for themselves but others like these idiots do it for them and do it with hate and racism.

Keep giving them snippets to use on news representing the Palestinians, keep getting your chuckles via racist pictures because while you do that Palestinians are dying.  This isn't virtual for them its REAL and jackasses like these morons aren't helping.

ps. NO IDEA how angry this gets me, to use another suffering to further your own selfish political goals.  Reminds me of Norman Finkelstein when he got upset that the suffering of people during the Holocaust was being used to inflict atrocities on another group of people. Shame on all of them.

edit: when i voiced my opinion, the admin immediately gave me links to websites with more hateful pics.  Do you know how many sites and emails were forwarded to me before I was Muslim of people who were supposedly Muslim doing horrible things? or from Muslim sites that turned out not to be run by Muslims? I told them that unless they were there and knew these people were israelis it was just heresy.  They provided more hateful links.  Its not that hard to get a yamaka (sp), kufi, thobe, Qur'an, prayer bead or even learn to scream "ALLAHU AKBAR!" I am just disappointed.  When Allah swt told us to STAND UP FOR JUSTICE this was not the way the Prophet (saw) show us how.
O you who believe! stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to Allah, even as against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin, and whether it be (against) rich or poor: for Allah can best protect both. Follow not the lusts (of your hearts), lest you swerve, and if you distort (justice) or decline to do justice, verily Allah is well-acquainted with all that you do. Qur'an 4:135

I need much du'as

I am having a very difficult time lately, I may go in to details in the future but for now I just can't.

Things have pushed me in to depression this week and I am very good at getting out of it but unresolved emotions, insensitive people plus hormones are making it almost impossible.  I feel just like when I was a kid dealing with abuse with very little hope and everything is gray / without meaning.

please keep me in your du'as.

4 shots to the head and one to the chest is self defense?

so as usual I was reading the latest development in the Gaza Flotilla massacre and I read this
One of the dead was 19-year-old old boy Furkan Dogan, a Turkish citizen with an american passport. State-run Anatolia news agency said he was hit by four bullets in the head and one in the chest.
read more HERE

That sounds like an execution to me. Also how close does one have to be to hit a guy with a metal rod and how far do you have to be to SHOOT someone with a military grade rifle (pretty long if you look at the video) 4 times in the head and once in the chest?  I don't think this particular activist was THAT close for this soldier to claim self defense.

Now mind you the spin they put on this story.  It says Turkish citizen with an American passport. Now there are only two kinds of people that can have a US passport.  A US national and a US citizen.  ALL U.S. citizens are US nationals but all US nationals aren't US citizens.  U.S. passports issued to non-citizen nationals contains the endorsement code 9 which states: "THE BEARER IS A UNITED STATES NATIONAL AND NOT A UNITED STATES CITIZEN." on the annotations page.(read Nationals who are not US citizens).  Furkan Dogan's passport did not contain that annotation and therefore is an AMERICAN CITIZENS.  Most likely a dual citizen and choosing to say a Turkish citizen was killed is better than saying AMERICAN CITIZEN.

So they executed him, I mean how can you even begin to try to deny that?

June 1, 2010

sorry for the silence

I have been feverishly on facebook, my pages and twitter blasting the israeli (doesn't deserve the capital) terrorist attack on unarmed civilians while in international waters. After I cooled down from my initial shock and rage I realized that while I was focusing on the dead who are already with Allah swt the living are being held hostage.
What state would be allowed to kidnap 700 citizens from multiple countries ON INTERNATIONAL WATERS and NOT be called a terrorist state?
They have not allowed access to the activists and the numbers keep changing I hope the flotilla organizers have a registered list of who was on board because I am beginning to think that a couple of these activists will not be returning home and be permanently "missing in action."
Side note: when you board a ship (that doesn't belong to you) in the early hours of the morning, armed to the teeth, on international waters hardly anything you do after that can be called self defense.
But anyway in my furor I forwarded two images that I have since deleted as I no longer see them as appropriate.  It was the israeli flag used on a pirate ship and the other one was a ship breaking through the star of David symbolizing the flotilla breaking through the ILLEGAL blockade of Gaza.  The reason why I don't see them as appropriate is that even though they are indeed associated with the israeli flag it contains a religious symbol that most if not all of Judaism accepts as its own not just israel.  While I may be upset with israel and its policies I have no beef with Judaism, the people who follow it nor do I intend on disrespecting them.  Remember Norman Finkelstein he is Jewish standing up for the Palestinians, why should his faith be disrespected just because we are angry with a state?  The same can be said about Saudi Arabia and its flag,  It may represent Saudi but it is also contains the kalimat accepted by ALL Muslims.  I would be very upset if it is used to mock or offend Muslims.  Get the drift?

Anyway keep the hostages in your prayers and keep writing to your representatives to DO something about this illegal action by israel.  You have the luxury of the internet and communications, they do not.

PS. I still can't believe they ABDUCTED people while in international waters and taken them to their country.  Anyone else wondering if they are in twilight zone?
